Itinerary
Day 1: Yangon
Arrive Yangon International Airport, transfer to Hotel. Following lunch meet & greet, we’ll go for afternoon shoot at Schwedagon pagoda through sunset. Shwedagon Pagoda (325 ft. tall) is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, believed to contain relics the four previous Buddhas of the present kalpa. O/N Yangon
Day 2: Yangon – Kyaing Tong
Following our breakfast, we make a one hour flight to Kyaing Tong, capital city of the Shan State and is inhabited by ethnic tribes such as Wa, Shan, Akha and Lahu. Following check-in, we explore the main market’s traditional potters and lacquerware makers. There will be a sunset photo shoot from Lone Tree Hill which is a high point above this ancient walled and gated city. O/N Kyaing Tong
Day 3: Kyaing Tong
Today our morning shoot will include the weekly water buffalo market. Following, we will travel one hour by 4x4 and then hike for one hour to Ho Kyin area, this is an Akha village. Here, we’ll see remote tribal life styles and natural, rural landscapes. O/N Kyaing Tong
Day 4: Kyaing Tong
Fowwoing our breakfast, we drive one hour, to the scenic Pintauk region where we will shoot the rice fields and its region of patchwork quilt-like landscape. The Enn tribe with their black teeth (they brush with charcoal) present us with a photographic opportunity. Lunch is planned at the Pintauk waterfall and will be followed by continued photographing of these little visited, extremely primitive tribes. O/N Kyaing Tong
Day 5: Kyaing Tong – Mandalay – Bagan
Today we make a morning flight from Kyaing Tong to Mandalay, and upon landing, we’ll drive directly to Bagan. As time permits – photo shooting around Bagan. Bagan became a central powerbase in the mid-9th century under King Anawratha, who unified Burma under Theravada Buddhism. It is estimated that as many as 13,000 temples and stupas once stood on this 26 mile plain of central Myanmar. Marco Polo once described Bagan as a "gilded city alive with tinkling bells and the swishing sounds of monks' robes". Also time for self-exploration or relaxing O/N Bagan
Day 6: Bagan - Kampelet
After a 4 hour drive, we arrive in Kampalet of the western Chin Sate. After crossing the Ayeyarwaddy River we will stop in the village of Kanzummer for lunch. The road is windy with numerous hair-pin turns. Kampalet which is 6,000 feet in elevation. Our photography session in the Kampalet village may capture people cooking, washing and preparing for their day’s activites. We will then spend our day exploring other easy to reach tribal villages, meeting the tattooed women and capturing images of the tribal culture. Late afternoon time to photograph or relax. O/N Kampalet
Day 7: Kampelet
Tribal photography and exploration in the villages of Par Kun, Saw Luang and Kanluang will be the order of the day. We will photographically capture images of remote peoples and their ways of life / living. Many of these Chin people have never interacted with foreigners before. ON Kampalet
Day 8: Kampelet – Mindat
After breakfast, we drive to Aye Village, "cold village", named so due to the altitude. The day includes capturing the tattooed faces of the elderly women from this village, who also adorn themselves with heavy beaded skirts and head pieces. We also photograph their homes, neighborhood streets of this village. We will be passing through Natmatang National Park on our way to Mindat. O/N Mindat
Day 9: Mindat
Early morning photo opportunity at the main market, then we begin our 2 hour trek, which is long, but not too steep or ardous. Our goal is to reach the Pan Aut Chin village. (Porters can be hired to assist those who wish their gear carried.) This is the largest of the Chin villages with over 400 people. We will visit the shaman’s house, photograph the tattooed women, traditional lifestyles and an unusual local cemetery. O/N Mindat.
Day 10: Mindat – Bagan - Yangon
Our road journey back to Bagan begins early with a5-7 hour drive. Upon reaching Bagan we transfer to airport for late afternoon flight to Yangon. O/N Yangon
Day 11: Yangon – Departure Transfer to the international airport for your flight home.
